Suggestions for a Good Read

These are the books we are recommending for 2006 and may be used for the
Women in Focus Reading Course.  Most of these books are available through your local book stores.

1. Killing Giants Pulling Thorns by Charles Swindoll – this is a personal growth book that helps us delve into the troubled spots of our lives.

2. I Grew Up Little by Patsy Clairmont – many of you are familiar with her humor and delightful insights into life.

3. Captivating by John and Stasi Eldridge – A sequel to the book for men, “Wild at Heart”, this book looks at the challenges of being a woman of faith.

4. 10 Minute Time Outs for Busy Women by Grace Fox. This is a book of devotionals that many have found encouraging and helpful. Grace has also spoken at some of our women’s retreats and will be at the Alberta retreat in Waterton this October.

5. A Generous Orthodoxy by Brian McLaren. For those of you who want to be challenged theologically, Brian takes a post-modern perspective to his interpretations.

6. Scripture – Job, Psalms, Matthew

Mission Awareness Projects

2006 begins a new chapter for Women in Focus as we embark upon the CBM STEP program for the next three years. STEP stands for Serving, Training Energizing Partnerships.

Our STEP Partner for 2006 – 2008 will be Kenya. We are committing to raise $10,000 for each of the next three years to support four ministries in Kenya. We will be contributing to Leadership Development, Community Development, Mission Outreach and the Guardians of Hope Program (HIV/AIDS related ministries).

In addition to raising financial support, we will be putting together short term mission teams to go to Kenya, either in the Fall of 2006 or Spring of 2007. We hope to have teams from each of our four regions go and visit our sisters in Kenya to take greetings and offer support to them there. Each time would be 12 – 15 people and spouses are welcome to come. We will be giving more information as it is available.

What can you do?

Please consider ways in which the women of your church might hold a fund-raising tea or special event that could contribute toward our STEP commitment. For tax deductible donations, please make your contributions through your local church program and have him forward the funds to our treasurer, designated STEP. Every penny will go to CBM and the Kenya STEP Project.
